This is either a southeastern five lined (Plestiodon inexpectatus) or a five lined (Plestiodon fasciatus)
We found this large cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus) during the fall bioblitz at Split Oak. It was a nice surprise as I never had seen one there prior to that. Upon closer inspection it seems like the poor snake either had a fungal infection or some gnarly old battle wounds.
