Banded water snake

At night during the Split Oak Forest Bioblitz, a fellow naturalist hopped into a pond and caught this beautiful nonvenomous banded water snake (Nerodia fasciata) so that we could document it. I didn't get any good full body length shots, but I would estimate that it was about 3 feet long.

Notice how it's flattening out its head in a threatening posture and resembles a venomous cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus) head shape.
